2018 Awards – Best readings, travels, movies and TV shows of the year

January always coincides with that period of the year when people start making their resolutions for the coming years – let it be starting the gym, eat healthy, self love, drink 8 glasses of water and similar. I'm still working on mine, but one thing I know, is that this past year has been a good year for me, and together with living beautiful experiences, I read some amazing books, and watched very good films and TV show; so before thinking to what good I'm doing next year, I'd like to thank and celebrate this just past one in a proper way.

Best Book: I have read many books this year (88, according to my online anobii profile), and I have truly loved a few of them. One of the best books I read this year is one by an Italian author, Bianca Pitzorno, and her books' title is (translated) Our Ancestors' Sexual Life. Its a beautiful novel set between end of the 70s to the 90s in Italy, and tells the story of a family, or better, the women of that family, together with a sketch of the historical time in the country. As the main character, Ada, reveals her story, past and present, she also discovers that of her mother, aunties and grandmother, and makes some surprising revelations.

Best Graphic Novel: This was an easy one to pick. I read so many beautiful graphic novels this year, but the one I loved the most is Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi. The story is an autobiography about the author's childhood in Iran; she tell us the way she grew up and how she faced the world after the Islamic Revolution. A must read according to me, this volume is a powerful, beautiful encapsulation of feminist ideals and a critic to the hypocrisy of social pressure. I've been talking about it here.

Best Movie: Well, this one for not that easy to decide either. Of course Infinity War has been a big thing, and one of the best movies of the year, but I also loved Coco, Deadpool, Mamma Mia II, First Man... but the one I just have to pick is Bohemian Rhapsody. I hope you've watched the film as well, if you did please let me know what you think about it. I loved it so much, and have been watching it three times at the cinema! Its a beautiful tribute to one of the most iconic rock bands of all times, and in particular way to the lead singer, charismatic Freddy Mercury.

Best TV Show: As I have mentioned before, my big discovery of this year have been Korean Drama. I've been watching a few, but among them, my favourite remains the first I watched, A Korean Odyssey. I'm talking in detail about it in this post, so go have a look if you'd like to know more. I find it so funny and well constructed, beautiful characters and an ending that makes me hope for a second season coming soon.

Best Travel: How could it be anything different from Japan? I loved my time there, I wish there was a way to turn back time and live that holiday over and over again. I just can't wait to go back and explore the cities and beauties I had no time to explore this time, but meanwhile, have a look here, you can find the links about all the articles about Japan that I posted so far.

My list might carry on, including best Theatre piece, fragrance, candle, make up bits, Youtube channel, Instagram profile and so much more, but that would become an endless post, so I decided to keep it short, and highlight only the major bits.
Up to you now, let me know what your favourite readings and films have been, and if any of those match with mine!

Talk to you very soon – I think next post will be my December readings, so stay tuned!
